Panorama Orchards is a family fruit farm established in the 1920’s to produce and market apples. Today we have available more than 20 varieties of apples, as well as peaches, and fall vegetables. This production, along with a variety of apple related product and baked goods from our own kitchens, is sold direct to the public at our farm market. Apples are the “core” of our business which has changed over the years from primarily wholesale to a diversified retail store. Our present facility was constructed in 1983, and contains an apple packing line, cold storage for 10,000 bushels, bakery kitchens, and a retail sales area.
Today Penland’s consists of two retail locations in addition to a wholesale business. At either location you can find our apples, as well as a wide assortment of apple products including but not limited to jams and jellies, apple butter, fresh apple fritters and bread, pasteurized apple cider, and delicious apple pies fried daily.
The biggest factor in the success of the orchard is hard work. Whether is is pruning trees in the winter, continuing to care for them in the spring, or harvesting and selling in the late summer and fall. The Futch family has made the apple producing business a year-round family tradition. R&A Orchards has approximately 60 acres of apple trees and approximately 10 acres of peaches and nectarines. Peach picking begins around June 1st with apple picking beginning August 1st, also vegetables are picked through the frost.
Aaron Family Orchards
The farm is now owned, operated, and maintained by Alan and Mary Aaron. Alan and Mary both attended Gilmer County High School. Alan started to attend Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, but the farm required his assistance more than his studies, so he returned home and married the love of his life Mary Waddell, who was attending North Georgia College at the time, and was a very active member of the Corps of Cadets. They were married in 1987 and added 4 more chicken houses to the Aaron Family Farm. In 1990 they welcomed their first child, Stephen, then in 1996, Joshua was born, and in 1998 Sarah was the final installment of the Aaron family.
