North Georgia Packing List

When a Blue Ridge mountain getaway is on the horizon, your essential packing list can vary based on the season and what your vacation holds in-store. What does your mountain escape look like? Things to take into consideration include the forecast and your planned activities. Of course, you may simply want to get away from it all for a little mountainside relaxation, with plans to do as little as possible during your stay. Our beautiful cabins make that an easy goal to achieve, but there are still some creature comforts and necessities you're sure to want to bring from home.

As far as what you can expect to be supplied within your rental... Our cabins offer fully-equipped kitchens, featuring refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, glassware, utensils, cutlery, pots, and pans. Linens for each bed will be provided, as well as two bath towels, one hand towel, and one washcloth per listed guest. In addition, we provide start-up supplies of essentials, including toilet paper (one roll per bathroom), one roll of paper towels, four kitchen garbage bags, a hand soap for each bath and for the kitchen, as well as dishwasher detergent, dish washing liquid, and laundry detergent for at least two loads. If you need to stock up on additional supplies, there are plenty of local grocery stores you can visit on your way to check-in, or anytime during your stay.

You've found the perfect home base for your North Georgia visit, now let's get packing! Here are some of our top suggestions on what to pack for your mountain getaway, and all the things you could easily overlook:

For The Home - And For Comfort

We consider our rentals to be fully-stocked to welcome you home upon arrival, but we certainly understand that some things are a bit more personal, and preferences may vary. Besides, how can you curl up for a cozy night by the mountain moonlight without your favorite blanket? That's just madness!

  • Make sure you check to confirm whether or not your cabin has a grill and if so, is it charcoal or propane? Do you need to bring the charcoal or any grill brushes etc.? Is propane supplied for the grill? Also, if you’re planning on sitting by the fire at night, ask if they supply firewood and for goodness sake, don’t forget the s’mores supplies!
  • It's advisable to pick up extra toilet paper, tissues, ziplock bags, and paper towels. For easy cleanup, consider grabbing a supply of paper plates, napkins and plastic utensils, as well as aluminum foil.
  • Don’t forget your swimsuit! In the warmer months, you may want to make a trip to the beach or lake. Even in the warmer months, it will come in handy if you have a hot tub on-site! Additional handy items to pack include: a corkscrew, coffee filters, and your favorite teas and coffees.
  • Toiletries tend to be something people are pretty picky about, so make sure you bring along the necessities (or purchase upon arrival): toothpaste and a toothbrush, dental floss, hair brushes or combs and any necessary appliances and styling products as well as shampoo and conditioner, body soap, handi-wipes, deodorant, and a laundry bag
  • We provide cable or satellite TV, internet, and telephone for local calls, but if you have personal mobile devices or electronics accessories, you may wish to bring any needed external hard drives or storage devices for photo uploads, headphones or earbuds, and chargers.
  • Why not bring along a few special items from home for amusement while you're enjoying the cabin? A few good ideas: a favorite book, puzzle, board games, or DVDs!
  • Weather can be a bit unpredictable in the mountains, and as your elevation changes, so does the temperature. To plan for maximum comfort, plan on layering. T-shirts and rain jackets are all-year gear in North Georgia. It may make perfect sense to wear flip-flops in the morning and boots at night. Be prepared for anything - especially if your plans involve the outdoors.

Activity Gear

If you plan on taking advantage of our destination's many recreational adventures, there are local outfitters available to provide some of the more cumbersome gear and equipment that you may not wish to travel with. We are a hot spot for adventures in fishing and kayaking, for example. While you may want to pack up your favorite lures and lucky fishing hat for the trip, you may not be up for dragging your kayak through the airport.

  • Comfortable shoes are pretty much an essential on any packing list, but if you see a lot of walking in your future, specifically aim for comfortable walking shoes or hiking shoes, hiking poles and a small backpack to conquer the hiking trails.
  • Think about the accessories that accompany your planned adventures... Water shoes if you’re going kayaking or white water rafting, golf clubs, fishing poles and tackle box, perhaps? Don't forget your lucky charms or any custom-fit gear you may have trouble replacing with rental equipment.
  • Make a general outdoors daypack including bug spray, sunscreen, water bottles, sunglasses, hats, binoculars, compass, and maps (yes, the old-fashioned kind). You won't always have Internet access on mountain expeditions, so don't rely solely on tech!
  • Not to mention - the whole point of a relaxing vacation is to try and leave technology behind. However, for those of us who use our phones to take pictures and videos, Internet access is not necessary to snap captures of memories in motion! Bring your phones or cameras of choice! Waterproof bags for electronics would be wise, even if you don't plan on water adventures.
  • It’s wise to be prepared for whatever may happen. Plan to pack an emergency kit, including: insurance cards, medications, and a basic first aid kit. For mountain excursions, you might need matches, a lighter, paper products, a case of water to keep in the car, and snacks.
  • A Sense of Adventure – Bring it!! There is so much to do up in the mountains, from local festivals, fishing on the lakes and streams, white water rafting, zip lining, hiking the Appalachian Trail, swimming or just browsing the local downtown areas. Don’t miss any of it!
